The root chakra also known as Muladhara Chakra in Sanskrit (mula- root; adhara- support) is the first chakra located at the base of the spine in the tailbone area. It plays a part in the Adrenal glands and like the quote above consciously helps with feeling secure, stable, grounded, and supported.
Astrological link: Mars
Element: Earth
Color: Red
Sense: Smell
Massage: Feet and calves
Sound/Mantra: LANG (la- earth; ng- mind) when chanted together, they bring up the energy. It can also be said as LAM. Regardless they will sound the same because of the noise we make when saying M or NG (ends up sounding like a hum).
Affirmations:
I AM Safe
I AM Grounded
I Belong
An amazing way to stay grounded is to walk barefoot on Gaia (earth) or touching/hugging a tree. Having that one on one contact with what supports all of us.
Foods:
Vegetables that grow deep within the earth help to keep us grounded and embody the energy of the root chakra. Try potato, sweet potato, parsnip, turnip, carrot, beetroot, onion, garlic, ginger and turmeric.
Eggs, meats, beans and nuts are all high protein foods that are very grounding and nourishing for the root chakra.
Red fruits and vegetables are great for balancing the root chakra. Strawberries, cherries, apples, pomegranate, tomato and raspberries. The colors of fruits have a huge impact to a corresponding chakra. Interesting, right?!
Essential Oils:
Rosewood, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Black Pepper, Cedar-wood, Arborvitae, Ginger, and Clove. A great blend is the Balance or Passion blend from dōTERRA.
Crystals:
Red Jasper, Smoky Quartz and Hematite.
Yoga:
A yoga routine for this Chakra is:
Balanced Root:
You are confident (but not cocky), responsible, able to get what one needs and helping others do the same. You feel grounded, calm, self-reliant, connected with your body, happy to help others. You enjoy challenges and adventures. Also, they are comfortable in any situation they are presented with. Another thing is being comfortable with outlooks and opinions that are valuable to you holding on to those, and letting go of those that aren’t.
Imbalanced Root:
If you are insecure, fearful, tense, timid, anxious, exhausted, and full of self-doubt, then those are signs your root chakra is not balanced.
Understanding the root chakra helps us understand our basic tendencies and inclinations. Also, it helps us understand the root of our self-concepts and further self-inquiry.
